VEUVE CLICQUOT ROSE 1995
This house blends a little still Pinot Noir wine with “white”
champagne, which gives a more earthy flavour. The “white”
blend contains mainly P. Noir. The grapes are only from Grand
Cru vineyards. I could not find a professional rating for this
wine. My records show that I gave it 90, two years ago. Then again
I like meaty, Rose champagne!
PAUL BARA SPECIAL CLUB BRUT 2000
This wine is always vintage containing two thirds Pinot Noir
and one third Chardonnay, from GRAND CRU vineyards. Bright, pale
gold, with fresh aromas of lemon grass, pinenut and yeast. Dry
with blood orange, lime and strawberry flavour. Intense and long
on the finish.Needs more cellaring to be even better. TANZER rated
91 plus.
FLEURY MILLESIME 1996
An excellent vintage. The first biodynamic Champagne in 1992,
using their 25 acres, said to have buttery raisins on the palate.
The palate is usually long. TOM STEVENSON rated 90.
PAUL BARA COMTESSE MARIE DE FRANCE 1997
This wine contains a 100% Pinot Noir. Beautiful yellow colour
with earthy, smokey scents of pear, apple, musky cherry and ginger
candy. Thick and rich with supple texture. Tastes of ripe, spicy
apple and yellow plum flavour. Probably good with sauced shellfish
dishes. TANZER rated 90.
ALFRED GRATINEN CUVEE PARADIS
This wine contains 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Meunier and 10%
Pinot Noir. This is the top Champagne of the house. I suspect
that this wine contains some of the excellent 1996 vintage. The
wine only contains grapes from the best GRAND CRU vineyards. The
total production is voluntarily limited to 20,000 cases per year.
This is one of the few reaming houses to ferment in oak casks
for 6 months (along with KRUG) The wine is a bright golden colour
with aromas of walnuts, honey and white fruit. The palate is round
with yeasty flavour and some vanilla. The wine is rich, full bodied
and harmonious.
I hope that you all enjoy the Champagnes.
Cheers! Frank
